What is AI search visibility and how can your business show up in ChatGPT?

Tribecast Media · 1 October 2026 · 6 min read

More people are now asking AI tools for recommendations. Instead of typing "accountant Manchester" into Google, they ask ChatGPT, Gemini or read a Google AI Overview that summarises the options for them.

AI search visibility simply means making sure your business is mentioned, and described accurately, in those answers. It builds on good SEO rather than replacing it.

How AI tools decide what to say

AI assistants draw on information they have learned from the web and, increasingly, on live search results. They tend to repeat what is said clearly and consistently across trusted sources.

If your website is vague about what you do, your details differ between directories, or nobody else mentions you, an AI tool has little to work with. It may leave you out or describe you incorrectly.

Be clear about who you are and what you do

Your website should state plainly what services you offer, who they are for and where you work. Avoid clever slogans that hide the actual offer.

A dedicated page for each main service, written in everyday language, makes it much easier for both search engines and AI tools to understand you.

Answer the questions your customers ask

AI answers are built around questions. Think about what customers ask you before they buy: how much it costs, how long it takes, what is included, whether you cover their area.

Answer those questions on your website in short, direct paragraphs. A well-written FAQ section and helpful articles give AI tools clear statements they can reference.

Keep your details consistent everywhere

Check that your business name, address, phone number and description match across your website, Google Business Profile, LinkedIn and industry directories.

Consistency helps AI tools trust that the information is correct, and it reduces the chance of an outdated address or service appearing in an answer.

Earn mentions from other trusted sources

AI tools give weight to what others say about you. Genuine reviews, local press coverage, industry associations, podcast appearances and partner websites all help.

This is not about chasing links for the sake of it. It is about being visibly part of the conversation in your field.

Use structured data on your website

Structured data is code that labels key facts on your pages, such as your organisation name, services and contact details. It helps machines read your site accurately.

Your web developer or SEO partner can add this without changing how your pages look.

Check how you appear today

Try asking ChatGPT, Gemini and Google a few questions a customer might ask, such as "best family dentist in Southend" or "SEO agency for dental practices". Note whether you appear and whether the description is right.

Repeat this every month or two. Our free audit includes an AI search visibility check, so you can see where you stand and what to fix first.
